Dubbed the largest Bakken conference and expo in the world, the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference, hosted May 24-26 in Bismarck, North Dakota, brings together industry leaders, lawmakers, and others with an interest in the region to discuss emerging Bakken technologies and development impacts.

Hess has been a leader in the Bakken since the beginning, when the company drilled North Dakota's first commercial well in 1951. Conference attendees can learn more about Hess’ innovative and sustainable plan for growth in the region by visiting booth 706.

Reinforcing the conference theme, “
Bakken Forward,” Gerbert Schoonman, Vice-President, Onshore Bakken Asset, Hess Corporation, will discuss driving efficiencies in the Bakken. In North Dakota, Lean efficiencies and supplier savings have helped Hess drive down costs to enable the company to bring some 80 wells online this year, despite the low price of crude. “Lean has given us fantastic results in terms of driving our well costs down and giving us efficiencies, which has helped us a great deal in working in an environment like this,” Schoonman said.

Schoonman is scheduled to present on Thursday, May 26 at 8:40 a.m.

Also in attendance will be Joel Noyes, Senior Manager, Government & External Affairs for Hess Corporation. As a member of the Bakken Upstream Air Task Force, Noyes will be at the conference
Wednesday, May 25 to discuss air and emission issues affecting North Dakota.

The three-day conference will cover topics and technology related to unconventional oil recovery, U.S. oil exports, operational efficiency, outlook for global oil supply and regulations. “Our approach has always been to invite regulators and other stakeholders to join us in working together to encourage innovation and learning to make North Dakota the premier example of a modern oilfield, and this conference is just one way that we seek to accomplish that,” said Ron Ness, president of the North Dakota Petroleum Council which coordinates the annual event.
